Shorts Program: Story Time
The Japanese Sandman
Edward Buhr, 2007, USA, 12 min
At once wry travelogue and heartbreaking tale of love lost, THE JAPANESE SANDMAN is a visual interpretation of a letter William S. Burroughs wrote in 1953 to Allen Ginsberg (from the collection The Yage Letters). Told through Burroughs' incisive voice, cocaine snorting in Panama and post-prom shenanigans in 1931 St. Louis becomes a meditation on loss, memory and the human condition. This film is not only visually compelling; it is a witty examination of the point where addiction and emotion meet.
Laundromat
Edward Gunawan, 2007, USA, 12 min
A young couple learns that the little things are what count after meeting an older man in a neighborhood laundromat.
