Gay Republicans
(Wash Westomoreland, USA 2004, 63 min)
To be gay and Republican in America is not easy, especially during the 2004 presidential campaign. Wash Westmoreland (The Fluffer, MTV’s Totally Gay) turns his camera on the Log Cabin Republicans as they face a difficult choice: vote for their civil rights or remain loyal party members. The members range from the vocal Mark Harris, who displays framed pictures of the president on his mantel alongside a bust of Reagan, to former Libertarian Carol Newman, a lawyer who married her partner in Massachusetts. The schism that gay marriage created within the Log Cabin is closely explored. This film gives a stereotype-shattering, gut wrenching portrait of an organization in turmoil that is incisive, moving, disturbing and humorous. gayrepublicansmovie.com
