20 Centimenters
(Ramón Salazar, Spain 2005, 113 min)
A camp classic in the making full of bravura, humor, kitsch, and style. 20 Centimeters follows the musical journey of Adolfo, a.k.a. Marieta, a lively narcoleptic transsexual who works the streets of Madrid for the money that she needs for her impending sexual reassignment surgery. Whenever she falls asleep, Marieta has flamboyant dreams where she is the star of elaborate musical productions with big, showy set pieces and choreography. Eventually, she meets the sexy shelf-stacker El Reponedor at the local market, with whom she embarks on an intense sexual relationship. How will this relationship turn out? Only Marieta can tell you …if she stays awake long enough. Spanish w. English subtitles.
