Winner – Canary (Kanarie)


The jury selected Canary (Kanarie) because it is challenging, complex, thought-provoking and unrelenting to the end. It is a prime example of how sophisticated LGBTQ films have become.

Special Mention – Socrates

A Special Mention was awarded to Socrates for the beautiful and heartbreaking performance of its young star, an untrained actor fresh from the streets of São Paulo, Brazil.

Jury Award – Best Documentary

Winner – Gay Chorus Deep South

The jury selected Gay Chorus Deep South because it told an important, meaningful and contemporary story while brilliantly weaving together the experiences of chorus members and their families.

Jury Award – Best Short

Winner – The Serenade (La Serenata)


The Jury selected The Serenade because it shows how the love, acceptance and complete devotion of understanding parents can make a huge difference in the self-esteem of a young child.

Director’s Award

Annabel Jankel (Tell It to the Bees)

Tell it to the Bees director, Annabel Jankel with Out Film CT director Shane Engstrom (l) and Luke Bronin (r) mayor of Hartford.
Tell It to the Bees director Annabel Jankel is the winner of this year’s Director’s Award.  The film’s quality and overall impact, as evidenced by its exceptionally high audience score, as well as Jankel’s thoughtful responses during the post-screening Q&A session left a lasting impression on the audience.  She also had an extended interaction with audiences throughout the weekend.
