The winner of the Berlin Film Festival’s Teddy Award for Best LGBT-themed documentary is brought to you by Out Film CT’s Second Thursdays! Zurich of the 1950s provided a fragile community for gay men and lesbians, centered around the magazine of erotica, Der Kreis (The Circle). This little-known part of queer history is revealed through a love affair between a shy teacher and a cute drag singer (played by Matthias Hungerbühler and Sven Schelker), both of whom contributed to Der Kreis. In the present, we meet the real-life elderly couple (Ernst Ostertag and Röbi Rapp) as they talk about their 58 years together.

“The Circle offers the best of both worlds, a perfect marriage of marvellous historical drama and moving testimony!” – Tara Brady, Irish Times. 102 min.

Written and directed by Stefan Haupt, 2014, Switzerland, in Swiss German with subtitles.
