Spanning nearly a century of Spanish history, LA BOLA NEGRA (The Black Ball) is a sweeping, intimate story of desire, secrecy, pain, and love passed across generations. From directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the film follows three generations of men whose lives are connected across different periods of a changing Spain. Drawing inspiration from the work of legendary Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, the film explores the ways love and identity can endure even as the world surrounding its characters changes.
At once an expansive historical drama and a deeply personal story, LA BOLA NEGRA brings together an exceptional international cast led by Guitarricadelafuente and Miguel Bernardeau, alongside Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, Lola Dueñas, Natalia de Molina, Albert Pla, and Antonio de la Torre. The film was an Official Selection of the 2026 Cannes International Film Festival, where Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi were awarded Best Director. The film is also Spain’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2027 Academy Awards.
